Nazis on the Ski Slopes
If we didn’t have brains and listened to pundits, we’d swear that American society has been teleported to top of Mount Everest for a weekend ski trip to descend the mother of all slippery slopes. We not sure if there has been a day this year in which we haven’t heard someone make some kind of “slippery slope” Nazi reference to the current democratically elected president’s agenda, including, that Hitler was also democratically elected and how Nazis were against pollution and smoking.
This is a cow pie level of discourse. We would like to offer a concise guide to people who use Nazi/slippery slope allegory as a crutch to promote their agendas so they can be healed and stop hobbling through conversations like an intellectual Tiny Tim.
The two primary things that made the Nazi party the historical boogeyman they have become were not their views on gun control, pollution, smoking, Hitler’s vegetarianism, animal rights, or the regulation of markets/socialism. What made the Nazis the great evil of the 20th century was:
1. The willful execution of millions of people who did nothing wrong.
2. Trying to take over the world.
That is it. Everything else (gun control, smoking laws, trying to regulate pollution and climate change, some level of socialism, etc.) exists in most modern, first-world, western, representative/elected/democratic governments, in one form or another (including the United States of America*). And you know what? None of those nations are (as far as we know) tossing innocent people in concentration camps in an attempt to eliminate their “kind” off the face of the earth or trying to take over the world with a military action (at least on the proper scale).**
And no, wanting to reform or provide universal health care (by possibly even socializing it) to its citizens does not count as qualifying for Nazihood. Why? Because Nazi “universal health care” was neither universal nor particularly caring since they considered being Jewish a pre-existing condition that would invalidate your coverage and have you put in front of an actual death panel (not just an imaginary one made up by the former snow queen GILF of the state of Alaska). Also, we would like to point out that Canada, in spite of a single payer system, does not appear to be particularly threatening in the whole world domination game (ask an Alaskan, they can see Canada from their house).
Hence, because many nations have proven that you can have a wide array of controls on health care, guns, etc., without wholesale executions and trying to take over the world, the slippery slope doesn’t apply since it is very possible to go down those roads without having the entire country go insane.
So, enough with Nazis on the ski slopes.
Now, this isn’t to say that we think you should agree with gun control, health care reform, etc. We can’t even agree on these things. Just leave the Nazis to actual discussions about the historical Nazis, and leave the fictional ones for Indiana Jones and Lt. Aldo Raine to take care of. Site just about anything else you want. There are plenty of fine options (depending on your viewpoint) from Ayn Rand, Marx, the ideology behind certain political and economic systems versus how the practice of them has turned out in reality, the value of an armed citizenry, go nuts. Vary it up a bit. Become interesting.
In closing, we’d like to point out that anyone using a Nazi reference in the comments sections will not be edited (unless you’re being ridiculously profane or something, because it is our site, so we have the right not to post your ramblings, but you do have the right to go shout them while standing on your street corner). However, while we will allow the occasional Nazi reference to roam free-range about our farm, we do recommend to our fans that anytime you read the word “Nazi” when it is used outside of its proper context, you replace it in your mind with “cute kittens.”
Because cute kittens love universal health care and gun control.

**We do acknowledge that Russian and/or China may cause us to have to revise the “trying to take over the world with military action” part of this sentence sometime in our lifetimes. But, we think they’re going to go after our precious American body fluids first. They will not get our essence.

Henry
First!
Sirs,
My name is Henry Hammler, and I am writing to you to object to this gratuitous objection to the use of the term Nazi by your political pundits. The amount of work and dedication to remain true to the vision of Reich 3, version 2.0 in this intolerant age of anti-fascist discrimination is only understood by those of us true believers pushed into the margins of society. We believe that the use of the term honors the memory of our predecessors and should be used more often, although we now prefer the spelling K-n-a-z-i in this more subtle age of rebranding. (There is just something especially sexy about the big letter K at the beginning of the word, it’s like big shiny black leather coats worn in some circles of those goose stepping hotties. Fabulous. )
We feel that our work in alternative energy was overlooked. After all the Kreich (Love that K) operated largely on Alcohol Fuels to supplement petroleum, long before so called progressive nations. We supported composting, after all the Kreich rototilled most of Europe and we promoted recycling all over the world–even Americans were forced to save their tin cans.
Health care was another area we concentrated on. We eliminated diseases by eliminating the hosts, (admittedly we failed to cure the French disorder, but we fully support Robin WIlliams in his identification of that disease–maybe he’ll do a telethon.) and we instituted public showers.
And we too, support gun control. It makes things easier for a government to look out for the best interests of those under heel, er underfoot, I mean. I wish I had time to go into version 2.0, but I have to go to work, now, Mom says so.
Remember, Fascist-Americans are Americans, too.
Sincerely,
Henry Hammler IV
